Former French president sentenced to life in prison

Paris: Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy has been sentenced by a court to life in prison.

Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy has been sentenced by a French court to one year in prison for embezzling money from his campaign.

Former President Nicolas Sarkozy has been convicted of embezzlement in the failed 2012 re-election campaign, but his lawyer says he will appeal the decision.

The 66-year-old former president was convicted in a Paris court of spending tens of millions of euros more on his campaign than was allowed under the law.

However, the court ruled that he would not be jailed, and that he could serve his sentence at home wearing an electronic bracelet.

This is Sarkozy’s second one-year prison sentence, the first former French president to be sentenced to life in prison in March for corruption and abuse of power.

Nicolas Sarkozy was President of France from 2007 to 2012.
