Former England captain blames ICC for Ben Stokes retirement, said this is a big deal

Former England captain Nasser Hussain has blamed the ICC for Ben Stokes’ withdrawal from ODI cricket. He has said that so much cricket is played nowadays that players have no choice but to withdraw from any format. He has also said that in the coming days many cricketers may announce their retirement in the Ben Stokes line.

Nasser while speaking to ‘Sky Sports’ said: ‘This is very disappointing news. He says how tight the cricket schedule is at the moment. If the ICC continues its tournaments in this way and all the cricket boards also start playing as much cricket as possible, then players will continue to fold in this way.

Nasir said: ‘Stokes is 31 years old now and has said goodbye to one format of cricket. This is not correct. Cricket’s hectic schedule needs attention. At the moment this schedule seems like a joke. If it continues like this, there will be a disaster in ODI cricket because everyone likes Test and T20 matches. In such a situation, players can drop out of ODI cricket.

We reported that Stokes had announced his retirement from ODI cricket on Monday. He had said in an official statement that now it is not possible for him to continue in all three formats. His body no longer allows him to play on such a tight schedule. Stokes will play his last ODI match against South Africa at Chester Lee Street today (July 19).
