Football player Josh Cavallo proposed to his boyfriend at a stadium

Player Josh Cavallo, left-back for Australian team Adelaide United, proposed to his boyfriend Leighton Morrel in the middle of the stadium.

The images of the scene went viral after the footballer was able to make the proposal to his partner with the help of his teammates.

In this way, Josh shared on Instagram the photos of the proposal that took place in the middle of the Coopers Stadium in Australia.

“I’m starting this year with my fiancée. Thank you Adelaide United for helping me prepare the surprise,” Cavallo wrote in the post.

The player made global headlines in 2021 after becoming one of the first professional players in Australia’s premier league to come out as gay.

This was Josh Cavallo’s way of thanking his team for their support after he revealed his homosexuality.

“You gave me a safe space in football that I never imagined possible in my dreams and you encouraged me to live authentically every day of my life.” “It was right to share this special moment on the field “where it all began,” he said.

His story went viral as very few footballers revealed they were part of the LGBTIQ+ community.

Since Cavallo took this step, at least two other active professional players have decided to communicate their sexual orientation.

In 2022, Englishman Jake Daniels, playing for Bradford in the Northern England League, did the same; while Czech Jakub Jankto, player of Cagliari in the Italian Serie A, announced his direction in February 2023.

However, many remember that German Thomas Hitzlsperger was the most prominent footballer to recognize his homosexuality, but did so a year after retiring in 2013.
