Finland remains shocked by Tuesday morning’s shooting at a school in the country’s fourth-largest city, Vantaa, north of the capital Helsinki.

“The investigation revealed facts that indicate that the crime was planned,” police chief Marko Sarka, who led the investigation, was quoted as saying in a statement.

“The investigations on the seized devices that were in the suspect’s possession, a telephone and a computer, revealed elements that confirm this hypothesis,” Sarka added.

Police said Wednesday that the shooter justified his gesture by citing the harassment he was the victim of.

The shooter entered Viertola School at the beginning of the year.

The weapon used, a revolver, belonged to one of his relatives, the police said, adding that this aspect was being investigated separately for “firearm-related crimes”.

The suspect cannot be held criminally responsible because he is under 15 years old and is in charge of social services.

The two seriously injured girls remain in the hospital, but investigators hope to interview one of them “in the coming days.”

The Viertola School houses 800 students aged 7 to 15 and has remained open since the crime, although classes have been reduced.
