Intensive day in Fiorano by the Italian team where they take advantage of the opportunity allowed by the FIA to improve technical aspects
The team Ferrari ended its filming day at Fiorano with Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc, who alternated between morning and afternoon to cover the one hundred kilometers allowed by the FIA in these shooting days. Although the marketing department of the Prancing Horse had an intense day meeting the demands of the sponsors, there was also a clear technical intention on this day of filming.
Those from Maranello tried to merge two objectives: collect promotional material and get information about the new package aerodynamic that they plan to introduce at the Austrian Grand Prix. The engineers led by Enrico Cardile put Sainz behind the wheel to obtain data from the previous version of the car, which would be compared with those obtained in the wind tunnel and the simulator.
Notable changes to the cooling system and front wing
Importantly, the gills on either side of the engine cover, designed to dissipate the heat generated, were deeper than those used in the Spanish and Canadian Grand Prix. This modification is explained by the fact that the Red Bull Ring, the scene of the next race, is located at an altitude of about 700 meters, which implies thinner air and the need to improve the cooling system in the power unit.
After a long rest, the Spanish driver returned to the track with a new front wing. The most noticeable change was the shape of the side, more rounded at the top, whereas before it was more square. In order to achieve a more pronounced outwash effect, the flaps to the endplate are new. The intention is clear: to bring more flow to the outside of the front wheel to better control the wake that otherwise produces undesirable turbulence.
New elements on the front wing in the style of Red Bull Racing
In the lower inner section of the wing side and near the trailing edge, a small horizontal flap has been added, in the purest style of Red Bull Racing. In search of the outwash effect, the flaps also show a downward trend towards the endplate, with a slight increase in the part closest to the nose. In this way, a breakthrough is expected in the next race.
The main profile shows a new “scoop”, but the most relevant change is the significant reduction of the profile in favor of a second larger element. This adjustment follows the concepts already used by other competitors. Likewise, they try to repair all the failures that up to now have deprived them of reaching the top positions on Sundays.
