FIFA World Cup 2022: The FIFA World Cup gets more exciting with every game. Now, each team is trying to reach the next round, i.e. the round of 16, by winning the remaining group matches. Tuesday was also a great day at the tournament. Not one but two teams from Group A qualified for the round of 16 yesterday.

These two teams cut the ticket to the next round

The Netherlands and Senegal secured their place in the round of 16 of the FIFA World Cup soccer tournament after winning their last Group A league matches here on Tuesday. The Netherlands beat the hosts Qatar 2-0 while Senegal beat Ecuador 2-1. Qatar has become the first host country in soccer World Cup history to lose all three of its group stage matches. The Netherlands topped the group with seven points from two wins and one draw, while Senegal came second with six points from two wins. Ecuador needed a draw in this match but due to the defeat they were eliminated from the tournament with four points.

The Qatari team lost the match again

The Netherlands scored one goal each in both halves against Qatar. Cody Gakpo gave the team the lead in the 26th minute while Frankie de Jong scored the team’s second goal in the 49th minute. Ismalia Saar converted the penalty in the 44th minute for Senegal. Kalibu Coulibaly scored their second goal in the 69th minute. Moisés Cacido scored Ecuador’s only goal in the 67th minute. The Netherlands will play the second-placed group from Group B, while Senegal will play the winner of Group B in the second round. In the match played in Al Khor, Qatar initially tied the Netherlands, but Cody Gakpo again gave his team an early lead as in the previous two matches.

He became the fourth player from the Netherlands to score in three consecutive World Cup matches. Before him, Johan Nieskens (1974), Dennis Bergkamp (1994) and Wesley Sneijder (2010) had accomplished this feat. Davy Klaasen made the move and passed the ball to Gakpo, who made no mistake when finishing on goal. With this goal, Gacpo became the second player after Italian Alessandro Altobelli (1986) to score his team’s first goal in all three group stage matches. The Netherlands dominated the first half and made some good plays. Qatar also challenged a couple of times but was never in a position to score. The Netherlands increased their lead to 2-0 shortly after the start of the second half.

For his part, this goal was scored by De Jong on the rebound. Depay’s shot after Klaasen’s cross was blocked by Qatari goalkeeper Barsham, but the ball went to de Jong. Then there was no player in front of him and he scored easily. In El Rayón, Senegal dominated Ecuador from the start. They created some good chances, although their first breakthrough came towards the end of the first half. Shortly before the end of the first half, Piero Hincapie brought down Saar inside the area and the referee did not hesitate to award Senegal a penalty. Saar easily converted the penalty to put his team up 1-0. Senegal deserved to take the lead as he made it clear from the start of the match that he intended to score.
