FIFA Announces Club World Cup Referees, No Portuguese Officials Selected for Main Event.

The FIFA has released the list of referees for the upcoming Club World Cup, and it’s a diverse group of 35 officials from 33 different countries. The tournament is set to take place in the United States next summer, with Benfica and FC Porto representing Portugal.

Referees from Around the World

The selected referees bring a wealth of experience from various parts of the globe. Some notable names include:

  • Alireza Faghani from Australia
  • Mustapha Ghorbal from Algeria
  • Danny Makkelie from the Netherlands
  • Szymon Marciniak from Poland
  • Anthony Taylor from England
  • Clement Turpin from France

These officials will be joined by others from countries like Brazil, Argentina, and China, ensuring a truly international flavor to the tournament.

VAR Referees

In addition to the on-field referees, 24 officials have been selected for VAR duties, hailing from 22 different nations. Some of the notable VAR referees include:

  • Carlos Del Cerro Grande from Spain
  • Marco Di Bello from Italy
  • Shaun Evans from Australia
  • Tomasz Kwiatkowski from Poland
  • Armando Villarreal from the United States

The VAR team will play a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy of decisions made during the tournament. Notably, the list of referees and VAR officials does not include any Portuguese nationals.
