Federer says at Wimbledon: ‘I hope to come back one more time’

Federer dice en Wimbledon: ‘Espero volver una vez más’

Roger Federer does not give up the illusion of playing again at the All England Club.

The eight-time Wimbledon champion received a standing ovation as he appeared at Center Court’s centenary celebration on Sunday.

“I hope to come back…one more time,” the 40-year-old Swiss said on Center Court, standing alongside other Wimbledon champions.

Federer is the men’s record holder at Wimbledon with eight titles. But he missed the grass-court tournament for the first time since his 1999.

The owner of 20 Grand Slam crowns has been inactive since succumbing in the quarterfinals at Wimbledon a year ago — his 22nd appearance at the tournament.

He mentioned that he had not anticipated that his recovery from knee surgery he underwent last year would take this long. “The knee has not treated me well,” she said.
