FC Porto’s basketball squad is set to face undefeated German rivals Rostock in a critical FIBA Europe Cup match on Tuesday, battling a wave of injuries but projecting a defiant front of unity and resolve.
The Portuguese team hosts Rostock, the Group B leaders, at 8:00 PM UTC, aiming for their second victory in the third matchday of the competition.
Despite their challenging circumstances, the team’s point guard, Jhonathan Dunn, conveyed confidence and determination in statements to the club’s website.
“We remain united in this phase,” Dunn said. “We are dealing with many injuries, we have many players out, but this is making us stronger. We have to be able to face this moment in the right way and, when we return, we will be a stronger and different team.”
Dunn emphasized that the depleted roster will not serve as an excuse.
“I believe it’s possible to win, but we have to be focused on our work,” he stated. “We have some unavailable players, but that cannot be an excuse.”
He added that the team must start strong and impose its rhythm against a formidable opponent. Rostock is known for its strength in three-pointers and passes.
However, Dunn highlighted FC Porto’s own advantages. “We also have our strength, which are the club and the fans,” he said.
He urged supporters to rally behind the team. “We need your love and support and we want to give it back every minute on the court.”
