Evo Morales declared himself “in case of emergency” and assured that they wanted to disqualify his candidacy

The former President of Bolivia, Evo Morales (2006-2019), declared this Thursday that he was “in a state of emergency” after appointing a “presidential delegate” to the electoral body whose task, according to him, is to disqualify him from the 2025 elections .

In a press conference in La Paz, the former president pointed out that they had “suspiciously” replaced the “presidential delegate” to the Supreme Electoral Court (TSE) and that, in his opinion, he also had the “mission” to prevent “the ostracism.” the ruling Movement for Socialism (MAS).

“I take the opportunity to address the militants, those who have a revolutionary conviction and a democratic vocation. From this moment on, we declare ourselves a state of emergency,” Morales said.

The day before, the TSE published several comments on the call of the “evista” bloc, close to Evo Morales, for a new MAS congress on June 10 in the town of Villa Tunari, in the central region of Cochabamba.

According to Morales, these observations are “formal and not substantive” and they will “clarify” them to show that the party he leads “respects its statutes” and its norms.

Among the TSE’s observations is the lack of consensus among the parent social organizations that are part of the party, as only 8 of the 14 members of the MAS national leadership signed the call for the June congress.

In this sense, Morales explained that there are two parallel confederations of social organizations and criticized the representatives of some of these entities because, in his opinion, they were militants of other parties.

The former president pointed out that the MAS must hold internal elections with all candidates for the 2025 presidential elections and called on the President of Bolivia Luis Arce to take part in these primaries.

“If Lucho wins in the closed internal elections, I will campaign for Lucho, which is internal democracy. If I win, Lucho will campaign for Evo, this is a way to respect internal democracy,” he said.

The official sectors linked to Arce separately called another ruling party congress for May 3, 4 and 5 in the city of El Alto, bordering La Paz.

Tensions between Arce, who was a minister during the Morales administration, and the former president began in late 2021, while supporters of both leaders have declared them candidates in the 2025 presidential election in recent months.
