Espanyol 'hacks' the campaign to the Generalitat and Barça

Espanyol has the tanned skin of moving in quicksand in Catalonia, where the institutions or the media place it in the caboose of their preferences. In the match against Girona or in the past Barça-Girona there have been several episodes, and this Monday, a frantic market day, a new agreement was presented between the Catalan Tourism Agency and the Catalan club. On this occasion, from the communication department of the parakeet club they have turned weakness into a strength and have used ingenuity to hack the ‘Feel the colours’ campaign, which aims to explain Catalonia to the whole world through Barça.

The first thing that Espanyol did was buy the domain feelthecolours.com, which was still released, and create a website in its own way in which it invites all its fans and the rest of the Catalan clubs to leave their messages or their emoticons. The parakeet motto has been written with a clear dart to the dominance of Barça at a social level and the support of the institutions without counting on other sensitivities: “It is the land of Espanyol and thousands of clubs, with millions of fans, each with their colors.” The video talks about other illustrious clubs with history such as Joventut de Badalona, ​​Bàsquet Manresa, CE Sabadell or UE Santboiana rugby. And a final message: “Discover Catalonia, more than two colors”.

Espanyol has made this campaign public through its social networks this afternoon. A sarcastic post: “Hello, Generalitat. We have been inspired by this new campaign. We are sure that you did not notify us because you knew that these days we had a lot of work. We have made some improvements that you will surely like”. The Espanyol communication department has made a video emulating the official one but with the historical images of Espanyol and those of the most emblematic places in Catalonia, making reference to other historical sports entities.

The agreement had been presented last Monday. The Generalitat de Catalunya, through the Catalan Tourism Agency, had signed another year (they have been 11) an agreement for the promotion of Catalonia through Barça under the slogan ‘Feel the colours’. In fact, the press release sent by both institutions emphasizes that “they seek to explain to the world the emotional bond between the Barça club and Catalonia”. According to the director of the Catalan Tourism Agency, Narcís Ferrer i Ferrer, “the slogan evokes the essence of Barça and its pride in belonging to Barcelona and Catalonia”.
