Espanyol draws 1-1 with Valencia in the Spanish league

Espanyol drew 1-1 with Valencia at home on Saturday, the day after firing its manager and sporting director with two rounds to go in the Spanish league. Only the result was at stake, since both teams will remain in the middle of the table, out of danger of relegation and with no chance of qualifying for a European cup. Maxi Gómez opened the scoring for Valencia and Raúl de Tomás equalised, both in the first half. De Tomás has scored 17 goals in the season. Espanyol fired coach Vicente Moreno and sporting director Francisco “Rufete” Pérez on Friday, amid anger from fans over the team’s poor performance this season.
