In Vendée, the beach of La Tranche-sur-Mer is one of the lucky ones. She has just won the “Blue Flag” label. A guarantee of water quality which reassures walkers and bathers. “It gives us confidence in the quality of the water”, explains a local resident. To obtain this label, there are a hundred criteria, including accessibility and waste management. “We have a decking that allows people with disabilities to go to the beach, and sorting bins”explains Pierre-Jacques Carles, elected official in charge of the environment.
“We see attendance constantly increasing”
The cost of the investment is 100,000 euros. It is an expensive label, but which also proves to be a mark of attractiveness. A few kilometers away, the beach is already labeled. “We see attendance constantly increasing”explains Bruno Piefort. The blue flag would encourage 8 out of 10 French people to choose a vacation spot. On the Vendée coast, 14 beaches have obtained the label this year.
