For the first time in England, there has been an increase in the number of Muslims compared to Christians.

According to the British news agency Telegraph, more than half of the population of England and Wales (approximately 51%) were Christians in 2019, down from 8.3% since the 2011 census.

The number of Muslims in the country has increased from 4.83 to 5.67%, while the number of Jews has increased from 0.47% to 0.55% and the number of Hindus has increased from 1.46% to 1.65%.

In other religions, the number of Sikhs dropped from 0.75% to 0.69%, while the number of Buddhists remained at 0.44%.

It may be recalled that the last survey of different religions of the country was conducted in 2011 while the results of the next census will be published next year.

The number of atheists (who do not believe in God) has increased by a third in England instead of Christians.

Religions have long been at odds with secularism in British society, which has led to atheism and the reluctance of young people to associate themselves with any faith.

That’s why in 2019, 20-year-olds didn’t associate with any religion, and that number was 53.4 percent.
