Jason Roy will no longer play for Surrey in the first round of the County Championship after withdrawing from this year’s Indian Premier League. The 31-year-old will be taking an indefinite break from the game to spend time with his family in the UK. Since the start of the pandemic, Jason has spent a lot of time in the biobubble playing cricket around the world and away from home. Jason Roy was bought by the Gujarat team for 2 million rupees.

Roy said: “After more than two years of COVID restrictions and living in a biobubble, I feel now is the right time to be with my wife and young children. I would like to thank all the coaching staff in Surrey for them. I want to be away from the game for a while and work hard to be at my best when I get back.

There is currently no set date for Jason Roy’s return to cricket, but he will be in contact with the club during this period. Surrey Director of Cricket Alec Stewart said: “Everyone here in Surrey is rooting for Jason and fully understands his decision to step away from the sport for a while to be with his family. We will be ready to return to the US, we will also be here to help you and face your next challenges in the game.
