The Konary project is considered a symbol of innovation in the field of renewable energy in Poland and beyond in Central and Eastern Europe. This initiative represents one of the first hybridization experiences, where different renewable energy sources with complementary operational profiles share the same interconnection infrastructure.

The Konary photovoltaic park, which is equipped with almost 70,000 modules on more than 55 hectares, will be connected to the same receiving station as the 79.5 MW Pavlovo wind farm. This technological convergence, promoted by EDP Renovables (EDPR), allows the switching of energy sources according to the abundance of their resources, thus optimizing the power supply of the grid.

“At Konary, we have shown that hybridization, already successfully implemented in Portugal and Spain, can enable the connection of additional gigawatts of clean energy in Poland,” said Bartosz Fedurek, Managing Director of EDPR in Poland.

The capacity of this park will make it possible to supply around 20,000 households with energy every year. A reduction in emissions of around 840,000 tons of CO2 is expected over the entire service life, making a significant contribution to the decarbonisation of the region.

This remarkable contribution to sustainable development in Poland is also reflected in the performance of EDPR in Spain. EDP Renovables España has been a pioneer in implementing hybrid projects that integrate both wind and solar energy. At the end of June 2023, the installed capacity exceeds 2.2 GW, consolidating itself as the market leader in the Iberian Peninsula.

These projects funded by EDPR not only create direct jobs but also revitalize areas in decline, particularly in rural and empty Spain. Likewise, Spain’s firm commitment to clean energy has positioned it as a global benchmark, attracting investment and strengthening the national economy.
