The Belgian winger Eden Hazard leaves Real Madrid after the agreement reached by both parties to end his contract, one year before the initially scheduled end.
“Real Madrid CF and Eden Hazard have reached an agreement whereby the player will be cut from the club as of June 30, 2023,” the Merengue team said in a statement on Saturday.
The Belgian international, who arrived at Real Madrid from Chelsea in 2019 for 115 million euros (123 million dollars), leaves the club a year before the end of his initial contract, which ended in June 2024.
Hazard, from whom wonders were expected to the point that between 40,000 and 50,000 fans came to the Santiago Bernabéu for his presentation, leaves without being able to succeed in white.
The Belgian winger arrived as a ‘galactic’ signing in July 2019, endorsed by the then coach, Zinedine Zidane, and after winning the Europa League with Chelsea, being chosen as the best footballer in the competition.
Coming from French Lille, Hazard arrived at the English team in 2012, where over the course of seven seasons he would play 352 games, in which he would score 110 goals and give 92 assists, becoming one of the best players in the world.
During his stay in London, the Belgian was barely affected by injuries, which would end up hampering his performance at Real Madrid, where in four seasons he was barely able to play 76 games in which he has scored seven goals and given twelve assists.
First, an injury in his initial preseason delayed his debut with Real Madrid, but the worst would come when in November 2019, Hazard suffered a fractured right ankle, after a tackle by his compatriot Thomas Meunier in a match in the knockout phase. Champions League groups against Paris Saint-Germain.
After three months out, as soon as he returned, he suffered a fissure in the right fibula in February 2020, for which he would end up undergoing surgery and since then, the Belgian would not be able to be the Chelsea winner again.
Hazard has been chaining an endless number of small injuries that have not allowed him to shine, until he ended up being relegated, especially after the explosion of the young Vinicius, who plays in his position.
In the current season, the Belgian, international with Belgium on 126 occasions, has barely played 19 games, none complete, in which he has scored a goal and given two assists.
Hazard leaves, however, with eight titles under his arm, including one Champions League and two Leagues.
“Real Madrid wants to express its affection for Eden Hazard and wishes him and all his family the best of luck in this new stage,” concludes the brief statement with which Real Madrid fired Hazard.
The departure of the Belgian is the third that Real Madrid announced this Saturday, after Marco Asensio reported in a video on his social networks that he was leaving the club and shortly after, the merengue team made official the departure of striker Mariano Díaz.
