The president of Ecuador, Daniel Noboa, who is also a re-election candidate, declared himself the winner of the first round of the presidential elections held on Sunday. He made this announcement despite the fact that the vote count is not yet complete. Currently, with 92% of the votes scrutinized, Noboa is ahead by about 45,000 votes over his main competitor, Luisa González, from the Citizen Revolution movement.
Noboa expressed his thoughts on the social network X, stating, “It has been a year of tireless struggle for the soul of this country. Yesterday we achieved what was not seen in years: we won the first round against all the ‘old Ecuador’ matches.” This statement marks his first message after the elections, following the cancellation of a planned celebration by his political movement, National Democratic Action (DNA), on Sunday night. The cancellation was due to the diminishing possibility of a first-round victory, as projected by some polls.
Election Results
With 92% of the recorded acts, Noboa maintains a narrow advantage of 0.48 percentage points. He has secured 44.31% of the valid votes, while his main competitor, Luisa González from the Citizen Revolution movement, has 43.83%. The Citizen Revolution movement is led by former president Rafael Correa, who was in office from 2007 to 2017. The close margin between the two candidates highlights the competitive nature of the election.
