JAKARTA: A 7.0-magnitude earthquake shook Indonesia’s northern province of Maluku Island, prompting a tsunami warning.
According to the news agency, the magnitude of the earthquake was recorded as 7.0. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued a tsunami warning after the earthquake, saying that dangerous tsunami waves could occur on the coasts located within 300 kilometers of the epicenter.
Foreign media say that the tremors of the earthquake in Indonesia have also been felt in Malaysia, but so far no loss of life or property has been reported as a result of the earthquake.
It should be noted that on November 21, 602 people were killed by a magnitude 5.6 earthquake in the western province of Java, the central island of Indonesia.
On December 26, 2004, a massive earthquake near Sumatra triggered a tsunami in the Indian Ocean that killed more than 230,000 people as far away as Sri Lanka, India, and Thailand.
