E-commerce in Spain grew by 33% in Q2 2022

The turnover of electronic commerce in Spain continues to grow. In the second quarter of 2022 it has increased 33.1% year-on-year to reach the €18.190 millionaccording to the latest e-commerce data available in the CNMCData portal.

2022 brings again very positive data for electronic commerce. The ecommerce business volume at the end of 2021 suffered a decrease in its growth, but in 2022 it has skyrocketed.

What have been the sectors with the highest income?

  • Travel agencies and tour operators has had the best figures, 10.2%. Increasing 3% compared to the previous quarter.
  • Air Transport with a 6.6%. This sector has only grown by 1.3% compared to the previous quarter.
  • Clothing with a 6.5% The fall in this sector was 0.8%.
  • Auxiliary services to financial intermediation with a 4.7%
  • Hotels and similar accommodation with a 4.5%
  • Games and chance and bets represent the 3.8%
  • Public administration, taxes and social security with a 3.6%
  • Artistic, sports and recreational shows with the 3.2%
  • Hypermarkets, supermarkets and food stores with the 3%
  • Restaurants with the 2.9%

More than 325 million transactions have been registered, 16.4% more in the second quarter of 2022. Restaurants lead the ranking for sales (7.1%), followed by gambling and betting (7%); and ground transportation (6.2%).

Geographic segmentation of electronic commerce

Regarding geographic segmentation, 46.8% of revenues in the second quarter of 2022 were destined for Spain. The remaining 53.2% corresponds to purchases originating in Spain made abroad. Very similar to the data obtained in the previous quarter.

The foreign net balance (the difference between what is bought from abroad to Spain and what is bought from Spain abroad) yields a deficit of 7,046 million euros. By number of transactions, 37.5% of sales are destined for Spain and 62.5% abroad.

The transaction turnover originating in Spain and outward directed Has been of 9,683 million euros, 20.9% more than in the second quarter of the previous year. 92.3% of purchases from Spain abroad are made in businesses located in the European Union.

What sectors are you interested in?

The branches of activity with the highest volume of business from Spain abroad are clothing (9.9%)the auxiliary services to financial intermediation (8.2%) and the air transport (6.9%).

On the other hand, the sales from abroad with Spain have been placed in a billing of 2,638 million euros, 106.1% more than in the second quarter of the previous year. 61.3% of purchases from abroad come from the European Union.

In addition, the areas of activity related to the tourism sector (which groups travel agencies, air transport, land transport, car rental and hotels) they monopolize 66.3% of purchases from abroad with Spain.

E-commerce revenues within Spain have risen by 34.2% year-on-year to 5,869 million euros. Billing in Spain is led by public administration, taxes and social security (9.8%), followed by automotive fuels (8.2%).
