Duran guides Texas over Angels despite flawless tackle from Detmers

Ezequiel Duran hit a three-run double in the ninth inning and the Texas Rangers beat the Angels 5-2 on Sunday despite Los Angeles starter Reid Detmers pitching a flawless inning.

Texas took three of four from the Angels and went 5-6 on their season-high 11-game road trip.

Detmers became the first pitcher in seven years with a no-hitter and a clean inning in the same season, accomplishing the latter during the second inning when he struck out Duran, Kole Calhoun and Charlie Culberson on nine pitches. It’s the fourth clean inning in the major leagues this year and the 109th in recorded baseball history.

Shohei Ohtani and Brandon Marsh each had two hits for the Angels, who lost three of four and went 6-18 in July.

The Rangers scored their first three runs in the ninth on a hit by Leody Taveras and Jose Quijada (0-3) walked Jonah Heim and Adolis Garcia. Duran then cleared the bases with a double to the gap between right-center off Raisel Iglesias.

For the Rangers, the Dominicans Leody Taveras 3-1 with a run scored, Ezequiel Durán 4-1 with three RBIs, Elier Hernández 1-0 with an RBI. Cuban Adolis García 2-0 with a run scored. The Colombian Meibrys Viloria 1-0.

For the Angels, the Dominican Magneuris Sierra 3-0. The Venezuelan Luis Rengifo 4-1 with an RBI.
