drug dealers and Criminals are profiting from the diplomatic crisis between Mexico and Mexico Ecuador after the attack by Ecuadorian police on the Mexican embassy in Quito, a senior Foreign Ministry official said this Thursday.
Mexico has cut diplomatic ties with the South American country after police raided its embassy in Quito to arrest former Ecuadorian Vice President Jorge Glas, who faces two prison terms for illegal association and bribery, as well as an arrest warrant for embezzlement.

The diplomatic storm shows no sign of abating. The government of Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, which had just granted Glas asylum, requested this Thursday Ecuador’s withdrawal from the UN in a lawsuit at the International Court of Justice (IGH).
“When Ecuador and Mexico fight, only drug traffickers and criminals win,” Mark Wells, assistant secretary of state for Latin America and the Caribbean at the State Department, said during a Senate session on the fight against transnational criminal networks and corruption in the region.
Ecuador is the scene of a spiral of violence which has led President Daniel Noboa to declare the existence of an “internal armed conflict.”
Many of Ecuador’s current problems are linked to the presence of Mexican cartels and Colombian cocaine, as it is “an important transit point,” Wells emphasized.
“So we really call on both governments to work together and try to find a way out and resolve this dispute,” he reiterated.
On Tuesday The White House condemned the Ecuadorian attack after an initial reaction from the Foreign Ministry, which the Mexican president considered too weak.
