Drought and heat put reservoirs at less than half their capacity

The lack of rain and the high temperatures of the last few days have caused descent of 449 cubic hectometers (hm3) of water in the reservoirs, which this week accumulated 27,040 hm3, 48.2% of its total capacity.

According to data from the Ministry of Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge (mite), the rains were scarce in the mediterranean side and affected the Atlantic slope, producing the most in Pontevedra, with 20 liters per square meter.

The Tagus and Segura basins accumulate 47.3% and 44.3%. The Guadalete-Barbate and Guadiana basins are still below half of their total capacity, with the Guadalquivir basin being the one that accumulates the least amount of water.

Despite being the ones that accumulate the most water, the reduction of the water reserve also occurred in the internal basins of the Basque Country, which in March were at full capacity and this week accumulate 90.5%.

The Tagus and Segura basins account for 47.3% and 44.3%, respectively. The Guadalete-Barbate (33.9%), Guadiana (30.3%) basins are still below half of their total capacity, and the one that accumulates the least water is the Guadalquivir, with 30%.
