Driving in the Netherlands: how much do bus drivers earn?

A job as a bus driver is probably a secret childhood dream for many. Public transport is an important part of our small country and bus drivers are key figures in our society. Bus drivers have regularly shut down service to seek a better collective bargaining agreement in which they want a lighter workload and a higher salary. In this article we take a look at the current salary of a bus driver in our country.

Salary as a bus driver

According to National Occupations Guide.nl, a bus driver earns an average of 2,242 euros gross per month. According to the website, the minimum gross salary is 1,663 euros and the maximum gross monthly salary is 2,821 euros. Amounts are all based on a 40-hour week.

The average gross hourly wage of a bus driver is 12.89 euros and the average gross annual salary including vacation pay is 29,056 euros.

Logically, the more experienced you are, the higher your salary will be. The minimum salary serves as a starting salary, but after about 2 years of professional experience you can expect a salary of up to 125 percent. This amounts to a maximum of 2,079 euros per month.

If you storm the Dutch streets for 3 to 5 years, your salary is between 85 percent and about 115 percent of the average salary of 2,242 euros. This means that in this case you earn between 1,906 and 2,578 euros gross per month.

After 5 years of professional experience, the salary varies between 2,398 and 2,821 euros gross per month. In this respect, a job as a bus driver offers many opportunities to supplement your salary.
