The goalkeeper of the Argentine National Team soccer, Emiliano “Dibu” Martínez, was declared this Monday “distinguished athlete” from Mar del Plata by the Deliberative Council of his hometown.

The recognition is due to his outstanding football career. and for the representation of the national team in international competitions, after the conquest of the Copa América.

With hundreds of boys in the stands of the “Islas Malvinas” Sports Stadium, the goalkeeper received the distinction and answered questions from those present as a press conference.

“It is a pride for the people of Mar del Plata that the ‘Dibu’ is a native of our city and we consider it necessary to grant him the following mention for everything he achieved, facing a career that is still booming”, argued the block that presented the project in the Deliberative Council.

“It is a pride for me what I am living. I want to thank the entire Council because I left very much as a boy from the city, but I am from Mar del Plata. I am very strong mentally and I am going to prepare myself to the fullest to be the best goalkeeper in the World Cup.”said the goalkeeper.

And for the boys who admired him in the stands, he added: “I come from a neighborhood in the city and I want you to know that if you want, you can achieve anything you set your mind to.”
