DR and Puerto Rico seek to channel agreement to train Dominican police officers

The Dominican consul in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Opinio Díaz, met with the secretary of the Department of Public Security (DSP) on the island, Alexis Torres, with the aim of evaluating possible collaboration agreements to train the Police from his agencies from Dominican Republic.

The representative of the Dominican government stated that his visit is made at the request of the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Dominican Republic, for Economic Affairs and International Cooperation, Hugo Rivera, in addition to the Director of the Police, Major General Eduard Sánchez González.

"We are interested in your cooperation in order to train, train, advise, receive logistical support, technological equipment, and exchanges of experiences and lessons learned, to improve public safety in the Dominican Republic.", said Opinio Díaz.

For his part, the Secretary of Public Security, Alexis Torres, reiterated his intention to cooperate with the neighboring Dominican Republic.

"For us it is an honor to collaborate with the brother country and we are in the best disposition to evaluate and work to establish collaboration agreements related to training"Torres said.

The Department of Public Safety is the government agency of Puerto Rico that groups together the businesses of the Puerto Rico Police, the Fire Department, the Medical Emergency Corps, the Emergency Management and Disaster Administration, the Emergency Systems 9- 1-1, and Special Investigations (NIE).
