Dorsia Covirán wins the Abra in the IV EKP Women’s Cup-Liga Iberdrola

The Biscayan waters of the interior Abra contemplated two precious and ideal sailing days for girls’ teams with the IV EKP Women’s Cup-Liga Iberdrola for women in the J80 class. After the many exciting and intense regattas -27- held, the thirteen crews in contention adapted to the one-designs set by the organization and to the wind conditions in a date decided with suspense after winning the final regatta by the Dorsia Covirán team formed by by Natalia Vía Dufresne, Nuria Sánchez, Marta Peñarrubia, María Torcida and Elena Arévalo.

The crew from Alicante repeated the victory obtained in 2020 and 2021 in the Abra. premature exit and had to redo it correctly. That penalized him in such a short run, he could not react and Dorsia Covirán played his tricks well to beat the Gipuzkoan team made up of Olatz Muñoz, Eva González, Patrizia Alza, Gabriela Cruz and Claudia Carpintero in the general classification. In third overall, after those 27 rounds – eleven for the five Medal Race crews and ten for the rest – Team Balearia from the Real Club Náutico de Palma (María Bover, Laura Martínez, Gemma Llamas, Giulietta Lang and Melania Henke). Fourth place went to CN Arenal (Aina Jordi Ballester, Marina Bonet, Marisa Vicens, Catalina Homar and Aina Colom) and fifth place overall went to Surne Biscayne (Carmen Galdós, Joana Abásolo, Natalia Carreira, Camila Rojas and Pilar Morquillas) of the Real Club Marítimo del Abra-Real Sporting Club, organizer of this test in the year of its 125th Anniversary.

Dorsia finished with 16 points, Decoexsa with 22, Balearia and Arenal with 27 and Surne with 30. Then, Zero Womens from Hondarribia (33), Biobizz from Biscay (34), Club Náutico Altea Altea (34), Madrid Navega (36), Real Club Regatas de Alicante (39), Real Club Náutico Calpe (39), Código Cero (42) and Ausart (49).

Natalia Vía Dufresne, patron of Dorsia, highlighted after her team’s victory that “there has been a fight until the end of the competition. I really like this format that has been carried out, with the Medal Race at the conclusion, because it gives play until the last moment. The sailing conditions have been good and all the scheduled tests have been carried out with good wind. I hope that next year there will be even more teams and more boats. In general, everything has gone very well.”

The female crews returned to the Biscayan waters of the Abra for the fourth consecutive year in this women’s EKP Women’s Cup-Liga Iberdrola in the J80 class, which presented a new competition format. Thirteen teams participated, sailing in the ’round robin’ competition system, which led to numerous beautiful regattas. The Real Club Marítimo del Abra-Real Sporting Club organized this test that has promoted sailing for female crews and fostered their leadership. Now, in this circuit, the tests of RCN Madrid, CN Arenal and RCR Alicante remain.

The IBERDROLA League-Spanish Women’s Sailing Championship is organized by the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation, the Real Club Marítimo del Abra-Real Sporting Club, Real Club Náutico Calpe, Real Club Náutico Madrid, Club Náutico S’Arenal and Real Club de Regatas Alicante, with the collaboration of the Autonomous Federations that host the regattas. This weekend’s competition has also been sponsored by Euskadiko Kirol Portuak and BBVA.
