Distributor Sees Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Boosting RPG Interest Alongside Oblivion Remastered

Kepler Interactive’s Matt Handrahan recently shared his thoughts on the success of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 with TheGameBusiness. The game has already sold over 1 million copies.

Not Concerned About Competition

Handrahan wasn’t worried about the release of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered affecting Clair Obscur: Expedition 33’s sales, despite their close release dates. In fact, he believes the opposite happened.

“The release of Oblivion Remastered didn’t hurt us at all,” he said. “It actually drew attention to quality RPGs that week, and got people talking about the genre.”

Unique Selling Point

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has a distinct identity, according to Handrahan. He believes that Western and Japanese RPGs have different gameplay elements and styles, so fans of one type aren’t necessarily fans of the other.

“Someone who likes The Elder Scrolls doesn’t necessarily have to play Final Fantasy, and vice versa,” he explained.
