Díaz homered, but a double by Ohtani was stronger and Anaheim beats the Astros

Shohei Ohtani hit a tiebreaking RBI double in the eighth inning and the Los Angeles Angels beat the Houston Astros 2-1 on Sunday to avoid a sweep in a four-game series.

Ohtani was hitless before hitting Phil Maton (0-1)’s pitch to right field, driving in Gio Urshela for a 2-1 lead. The well-timed drive increased Ohtani’s season total of RBIs to 41.

Luis Rengifo hit his third home run for Los Angeles, which snapped a three-game slide. Chris Devenski (3-0) pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings for the win and Carlos Estevez got four outs for 14 saves.

Yainer Díaz homered for Houston and Alex Bregman also had two hits. Bregman extended his hitting streak to 11 games.

For the Angels, Venezuelan Luis Rengifo went 3-1 with a run scored and an RBI. Colombian Gio Urshela 3-1.

For the Astros, the Dominican Yaniel Díaz 4-2 with a run scored and an RBI. Honduran Mauricio Dubón 4-1.
