Diablo 2 resurrected: release date, news, platforms, everything you need to know

Diablo 2 will be entitled to a revised and corrected version. Blizzard wants to give its legendary hack and slash a makeover this year. Release date, platforms, price, we’ve told you everything there is to know about this new title.

Diablo 2 Resurrected is without a doubt one of the most anticipated titles of the year. From the moment it was announced on Blizzcon in February, it has sparked excitement. It’s true that the introductory video is very envious. Vicarious Vision studio, which previously worked on the Tony Hawks remake, is working here. This is not a remake, nor a simple graphical remaster. In reality it’s a bit in between. It will be possible to enjoy the original experience, but with a serious technical upgrade. It seems a little vague, but we’ve explained everything to you in this file.

Blizzard doesn’t intend to repeat the mistakes of the past, especially with the remastering of Warcraft 3 that hadn’t really convinced fans (we now know it had been sacrificed on the altar of profitability). That’s why Diablo 2 Resurrected will likely be more polished, which raises expectations even more. Also, the first opinions of journalists who were able to play there are raves. Trust is therefore essential.

Of course, new information may appear over time and we will modify this file accordingly. Therefore, it is necessary to evolve.

🔥What is Diablo 2?

In 1997, the Blizzard North studio released the first Diablo, a dark, gothic hack and slash that quickly meets a phenomenal craze. The goal ? Choose a hero and descend into the depths of the Tristram Catacombs to face the terrible Diablo, the Lord of Terror.

Faced with such success, Blizzard immediately set to work on a sequel, soberly called Diablo 2. It was released in 2000 and improved the first game in every way, the gameplay was enriched, the universe expanded, the environments varied, in short, it was a total success. In 2001, the game received an expansion: Lord of Destruction. Diablo 2 impressed so much that it is considered the best hack and slash in history. Since then, Blizzard released Diablo 3 in 2012, after its Reaper of Souls expansion in 2014, but the latter never managed to replace the second episode in the hearts of players.

That’s why the studio decided to give it a second life with this Risen version.. It will offer what made the original title successful, but starting from scratch the graphic part. We’ll look at this more closely a little later.

🗓When will Diablo 2 Resurrected be released?

Diablo 2 Resurrected released in September 23, 2021. The date was formalized by Blizzard during E3 2021. In August 2021, two beta phases are scheduled. The first will take place from August 13th to 16th for those who have already ordered the game, and the second, from August 20th to 22nd, for everyone. These two sessions are for PC and console versions (except Switch).

If you participate, be aware that you can still find two or three small bugs, which is normal for a beta. However, here we have an almost final version of the game.

🎮On which platforms is Diablo 2 Resurrected released and at what price?

Diablo 2 Resurrected 2 will be released on virtually all current platforms. Of course it will be on PC, but also on consoles: Xbox One, Xbox Series X / S, PS4 and PS5. If you are the nomadic type, know that it will be also released on Nintendo Switch. You will need a subscription to the manufacturers’ online services to enjoy multiplayer.

If the game is primarily designed for keyboard/mouse combination, the gameplay with the controller is quite adequate, even nicer at certain points. Diablo 3, for example, was successfully released on consoles, Switch included! Interestingly, the progress will be linked to your Blizzard account: you start a game on PC and can resume it on Switch without any problems.

the game will cost 39.99 euros, both on PC and consoles. Note that a Prime Evil version, which also includes Diablo 3 and all of its content, will also sell for 59.99 euros. There will be no physical version, as the title will be sold exclusively in dematerialized form. Too bad for collectors.

🆕What will the changes be?

We said earlier that Diablo 2 Resurrected was halfway between remake and remaster and it’s time to explain why. You should know that this new version will be almost the same than the one released in 2000. The gameplay, still effective, hardly moves an iota. Almost, because very rare changes were made for more comfort, like a bigger bag or redesigned menus.

However, the game Graphically has nothing to do with it. In fact, Vicarious Visions started from scratch to give us a redesigned visual look and a reinvention that is faithful to the original title. Diablo 2 Resurrected is therefore the old game you knew, but in a new setting. It will be possible to play in 4K and 144 FPS… And even on the screen 21:9 on the PC. Isn’t life beautiful?

The studio had the good idea to let you switch from new to old graphics instantly with the touch of a button. This allows you to see the work done and see that beyond the look, nothing has changed in the set layout and atmosphere. Note that this new title will be so faithful to the original that it will even be possible to use your old backup to remain a character! Important clarification: Diablo 2 Resurrected will include basic game content as well as its Lord of Destruction expansion.

In short, a visual revolution, but a faithful game, that’s the philosophy of Diablo 2 Resurrected.

❓What future for the Diablo franchise?

Diablo will come back into effect in the coming years. In fact, Diablo 2 Resurrected is not one of the three expected games taking place in the universe of the Sanctuary. Here are the other Diablo titles to come in the future:

Diablo Immortal : Better known for creating bad buzz during Blizzcon 2018 than for its video game qualities, Diablo Immortal is always well planned. This is a mobile game that will be placed chronologically between Diablo 2 and Diablo 3. Here, Blizzard wanted to transcribe third-party gameplay on our phones and bring an MMORPG feel. At the moment, Diablo Immortal does not have a specific release date, but Blizzard has indicated that it will be available during the year 2022.

Diablo 4 : The fourth installment was presented with great fanfare at Blizzcon 2019 through a breathtaking video.

Since then, he has been discreet, even though we are entitled to the introduction of a new character, the thief, during Blizzcon 2021, as well as some gameplay sequences. Diablo 4 wants to reconnect with the atmosphere of the second episode while looking to be more modern in its gameplay. Thus, we will probably find third party nervousness in the fights as well as the presence of an open world. As for the release date, Blizzard has announced that it is taking too long. One thing is for sure, it won’t be commercialized in 2021. If it comes out in 2022, we can count ourselves lucky…
