Despite the Ukraine war, Russia assumed the presidency of the Security Council

Russia took over the presidency of the UN Security Council despite the Ukraine war.

As a permanent member of the Security Council, Russia has been given the presidency for the month of April. Despite Ukraine’s complaints, the US said it could not prevent Russia – a permanent member of the council – from assuming the presidency.
The other permanent members of the council are the United Kingdom, the United States, France and China.

Russia’s presidency of the UN Security Council for the month of April, according to Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Koliba "It is a slap on the face of the international community.

In a statement on Twitter, Koliba lashed out at Russia "Declared the UNSC presidency “illegitimate”.

The last time Russia held the presidency was February 2022 and launched an all-out invasion of Ukraine. The Security Council has 15 members and each holds the presidency of the Council for a month.
