Death of Elizabeth II: the sovereign was the second longest reigning monarch in a state

A reign of seventy years. Queen Elizabeth II, who died Thursday September 8, was the second monarch of a sovereign state in terms of longevity, behind the King of France Louis XIV, who died in 1715. Became queen on February 8, 1952, she died after 70 years and seven months of reign.

On September 9, 2015, she broke the longevity record for a British monarch, previously held by her great-great-grandmother, Queen Victoria, who reigned from 1837 to 1901, or 63 years, 7 months and 2 days. On May 9, she took third place among the monarchs of sovereign states in terms of longevity from Prince Johann II of Liechtenstein, then second on June 13 from King of Thailand Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX), who died in 2016.

Only Louis XIV, who became king of France at the age of 4 and a half and died in 1715, reigned longer. At 96, Elizabeth II was also the oldest sitting monarch in the world.
