Dead By Daylight Surges to New Player Record Following Five Night’s At Freddy Collab

Dead By Daylight has smashed its previous record for peak player count, thanks to a collaboration with Five Nights At Freddy’s. On June 17, the game reached an all-time high of 106,029 concurrent players on Steam, surpassing its previous record of 105,093 set in 2021.

The surge in popularity is largely attributed to the recent crossover event, which introduced iconic characters from Five Nights At Freddy’s, such as Springtrap, as a new Killer in the game. The update also added a new map, Freddy’s Fazbar Pizza, to the game.

Combining Two Different Worlds

Jay Guzzo, the designer behind the Springtrap Killer, told Gamespot that merging the gameplay styles of Dead By Daylight and Five Nights At Freddy’s was a challenge. “You know, Dead By Daylight and Five Nights At Freddy’s are very different games,” he said. “In Freddy’s, you sit in a room and manage your resources – batteries. In DBD, it’s all about action. Players need to be active to progress. The challenge was bringing these two together – creating that same tension as in Freddy’s, but in our own way.”

The success of this collaboration has proven that bringing together different gaming universes can lead to exciting new experiences. Dead By Daylight is available now on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
