The list of characters who feel the call of the timed sections does not stop growing. The last one to sign up is Joseph Verstappen, the father of the reigning Formula 1 world champion, who has announced that will contest a Belgian championship rally at the end of the month at the wheel of a Citroën C3 Rally2.
The one who was also an F1 driver in the 90s will make its debut at Rally van Haspengouw, the opening round of the Belgian event, on February 26. At the wheel of the C3 prepared by the DG Sport team, he will run co-driven by the experienced Kris Botson. They have also confirmed that they will compete in the second round of the championship, and that in the future They are interested in taking part in a World Cup test.
Vertappen was due to make his stage debut at the Drenthe Rally TT Assen at the end of last year, but it was canceled due to the increase in COVID-19 cases in the Netherlands. Therefore, he has had to wait until now to find a test that suits his needs.
“This is unlike anything I’ve done before in motorsport,” has confessed ‘Daddy Verstappen. “For me everything is really new: from the car to the working method, making notes, listening to them while driving and knowing all the stages. It’s a very big challenge and I don’t really expect to be able to compete for the top positions.
