The popularity of Carlos Alcaraz Garfia, the young Murcian tennis player who is the 29th player in the ATP, is raffled around the world and if his image is already associated with large commercial firms -Nike, Babolat, Rolex, Isdinâ – his name also appears on the poster of prestigious exhibition tournaments and the next event of these characteristics that he will face will be a duel against the Polish Hubert Hurkacz, next spring.
Alcaraz, still an 18-year-old teenager and whom many point to as the successor in Spanish tennis of a surely unattainable Rafa Nadal, has been chosen for that match against the current world number 11a position occupied by the 24-year-old from Wroclaw and who in 2021 won his first ATP 1,000 title, that of Miami, and reached the semifinals at Wimbledon after beating the Russian Daniil Medvedev in the round of 16 and the Swiss Roger Federer in the quarterfinals .
The Spaniard and the Pole will meet in a duel that will not award ATP points but will focus part of the international tennis attention and to be held in Athens, the capital of Greece.
The same is included on the IMG Future Stars Invitational Tournament schedule, sub-12 championship that will take place at the Tatoi Club from April 25 to May 1.
Alcaraz, who a few days ago was appointed ambassador of the Autonomous Community of Murcia, was already present last October at the exhibition tournament in Vienna and before, in August, in which it took place at the Equelite JC Ferrero Sport Academy from the Alicante town of Villena, where he trains. The one from El Palmar showed his competitive spirit even in those tournaments, beating the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas and Juan Carlos Ferrero, who is his coach, in the finals.
There are almost three months left for that meeting in Athens and previously Alcaraz will focus on the following tournaments in which he will take part and which are the ATP 500 in Rio de Janeiro, in Brazil, from February 14 to 20; and Acapulco, in Mexico, from 21 to 26; and the ATP 1,000 in Indian Wells and Miami, both in the United States from March 10 to 20 and from March 23 to April 4, respectively.
in between, the Murcian is summoned to play with Spain the Davis Cup tie against Romania, to be held in the Malaga town of Marbella on March 4 and 5.
