Customs announces the opportunities that logistics operations have

With the aim of consolidating the Dominican Republic as a regional Logistics Hub for merchandise distribution, the General Directorate of Customs held a logistics operations workshop called “How to Become an International Distribution Hub!”, which is part of the initiatives of promote the growth of logistics operations in the country.

This activity was attended by executives from renowned companies that make up the national productive fabric and entrepreneurs from the country’s logistics service sector.

The General Director of Customs, Eduardo Sanz Lovatón, stated that the role of these hubs It is not so much to be a point of origin or destination, but to serve as a connection, consolidation and redirection center for merchandise from other countries.

“With this workshop, the General Directorate of Customs intends to show Dominican businessmen the great business opportunities they have in their hands through logistics operations,” said Sanz Lovatón.

In addition, he assured that “This country has for the first time in a long time set its sights on foreign trade, in this management, we have made logistics an essential priority of our actions every day, since we exchange ideas, review processes to push the logistics issue in the Dominican Republic”.

Johannes Kelner, Deputy Director General of Customs, explained how the logistics centers work, the opportunities they offer, how easy it is and the good connections that the Dominican Republic offers, both by air and sea, with the rest of the world.

During his speech, he motivated the companies, which are large importers in the country, “to use the facilities provided by the Hub to internationalize and do business.

Kelner also stated that “we are bringing you the main logistics operators so that they can talk after the meeting and can talk about the possibility of using the Dominican Republic as one of their clients, as a regional distribution point.”

“How to Do International Business Using DR as a Hub!”, was the main theme of the panel and included the participation of panelists Carlos Flaquer, from the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Mipymes (MICM); Daniel de los Santos from the Caribetrans company; Marcos Henríquez from Henríquez & Ascs and Jonathan Baez from Tropical Shipping.

All agreed on the benefits obtained by doing business with international companies, providing services that add value to merchandise and make the supply chains of their customers and business partners more efficient.

With the realization of this workshop, a new cycle of opportunities is opened through the training, information and facilities offered by the institution, providing support and working closely with the businessmen of the sector, to increasingly consolidate an alliance that leads the country to develop Hub.
