Covid-19: medical team sent to Martinique

To cope with the difficult health situation in Martinique, the army sent around fifty soldiers to help caregivers there. Doctors, nurses and logists make up the deployment.

The first reinforcements, members of the Army Health Service and the Army Medical Regiment, left the Orleans military base at dawn on Monday, August 2. They took the direction of Fort-de-France. They were shipped with resuscitation beds and medical equipment, such as ventilators and monitors, to be able to work in total autonomy and thus relieve and assist local personnel.

In addition to this help, Martinique was able to transfer three patients to the metropolis last weekend. The incidence rate is currently very high on the island, with 1,056 contaminations per 100,000 inhabitants. The average for the whole of France is 218. Only 15% of the local population is vaccinated.
