The president of Nicaragua, Daniel Ortega, asked this Saturday the National Assembly (Parliament), controlled by the Sandinistas, to ratify the entry into the country of troops, ships and aircraft of the Russian Armed Forces as of July 1, The Legislative Power reported this Saturday.

The Sandinista leader, an ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin, asked Parliament to grant the "urgent procedure" to his presidential decree so that it can be ratified as soon as possible.

Ortega authorized the entry of Russian troops into Nicaragua during the second half of this year to participate in operations "against illicit" in the Caribbean Sea and in the Nicaraguan Pacific Ocean, according to presidential decree number 10-2022, published this week in the Official Gazette.
