Cordero hits a fourth home run, Cabrera decides and Yankees win

Oswaldo Cabrera hit a tiebreaking two-run double in the ninth inning off reliever Emmanuel Clase and the New York Yankees held on to beat the Cleveland Guardians 4-3 on Wednesday night.

Cabrera’s drive to right field against Clase (1-1) allowed Giancarlo Stanton to score, who had reached on a single to the infield with one out and reached second on a poor throw by shortstop Amed Rosario.

Yankees closer Clay Holmes loaded the bases in the ninth with a pitch and two walks, but struck out Rosario for the final out and his fourth save. Wandy Peralta (1-0) didn’t allow a hit in the eighth to earn the win.

Franchy Cordero homered again for the Yankees. The Dominican’s fourth home run of the season tied the game 3-3 in the seventh.

New York has won its first four series for the third time in 20 years, taking two of three in each.

The final game of the series included the ejection of Yankees manager Aaron Boone in the first after a controversial play in which umpires overturned a catch by center fielder Aaron Hicks.

For the Yankees, the Venezuelan Cabrera 4-2, one scored and one RBI. The Dominican Cordero 4-1, one scored and one towed.

For the Guardians, the Dominicans José Ramírez 3-1, one scored; and Rosario 5-1, one scored and one RBI. Venezuelan Andrés Giménez 4-0.
