Auckland: The people of New Zealand have demanded to change the name of the country.

According to foreign media, a petition has been issued by the public, which has been signed by more than 70 thousand people so far, in the petition, the public is demanding that the Dutch English name of New Zealand be changed be named Aotearoa in the local Maori language.

The Maori Party co-leader Debbie Ngariwa Packer has emphasized the importance of changing the country’s name and staying connected to local culture, saying the word Aotearoa reflects their true identity of who they were.

More than 70,000 people have signed a petition to change the country’s name, enough to force the country’s parliament to formally consider the proposal, he said.
