Colombia beats Curaçao 6-5 in a clash that lasted 13 innings

The Vaqueros de Montería team defeated the Curaçao team six runs by five in 13 innings, in a long game this Sunday of the fourth day of the “65 of the Simple TV Caribbean Series Gran Caracas 2023”, which took place at the Forum de la Guaria stadium.

It is the second victory with two losses for the Vaqueros de Montería, while Curaçao now has a similar record of 2-2. The match lasted five hours and 18 minutes.

The challenge was decided by batter Pabel Manzanero in the top of inning number 13 who hit a double with a teammate at third base to make the game 5-6. Then Fabián Petruz added one more run with a home run to left field.

The game was won by reliever Carlos Díaz and charged withthe reverse Cerilio Soleana. Yermison Peralta was credited with a save. Colombia had six hits and Curacao 10.

For the Cowboys, Fabian Petruz excelled at bat with three hits, including a home run and two RBIs. Jordan Diaz went 1 for 3 with two RBIs.

Curacao produced one more round in the 13th inning against reliever Peralta.

They shone offensively for Curacao, Sharon Schoop with three hits and two runs scored, Simmons homered, S. Loopstok went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

In the ninth inning, Curaçao with the game leading 4-2, Curaçao reliever Wendell Floranus came with little luck issuing two walks, Francisco Acuña sacrificed for the pitcher and Jordan Díaz singled to center with runners in third and second to equalize the game at four per side.

Curaçao’s starter was Chairon Martis, who worked 4.2 innings, allowed two runs, walked four and struck out two. He gave way to Ryan Huntington and he gave way to Franklin Van Gurp. The Dominican Edgar Ernesto García worked the seventh and the eighth.

On his side, for Colombia, started Carlos Eduardo Quevedo, who worked in 5.1 innings, allowed three runs, walked two and struck out four. Then he gave way to Kevin Andrés Escorcia and he gave way to Hugo Mario Beltrán in the eighth.

The first to score was the Colombian team when they made a score in the same first inning. Gustavo Campero hit a double through the right meadow and immediately went to steal third with success. In the sixth, Schoop singled and Andrelton Simmons went down the left field into the lane against Quevedo’s deliveries with a teammate on board to turn the score around and put Curaçao ahead 3-2. That hit decreed the departure of Quevedo who had achieved an excellent performance in the first five innings.

Curaçao then made another run in the eighth, but Colombia tied it in the ninth 4-4.
