Tensions between China and the United States have increased in recent times, and these tensions continue to rise, and I have warned Taiwan not to try to cross it, calling it its red line.
In his first press conference during the annual session of the parliament in Beijing on Tuesday, Foreign Minister Chen Geng said that Taiwan is a red line for his country that Washington should not cross, according to foreign media reports.
He stressed that resolving the Taiwan issue is only a concern of the Chinese and no other country has the right to interfere.
According to the British news agency Reuters, Chen Gang said that his country reserves all options to take the necessary steps to reunify the sovereign island with China.
It should be noted that these statements came at a time when tensions between China and the United States have reached their highest level in years due to American support for the island of Taiwan.
Recall that a few months ago, senior US politicians angered Beijing by visiting Taiwan, and in August 2022, the Chinese military conducted large-scale exercises in response to the visit of the then Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi. Beijing views visits by foreign government officials to the island as a challenge to China’s claim of sovereignty over Taiwan.
It should be noted that Beijing considers Taiwan part of its territory and believes that it can be controlled by force if necessary. China and Taiwan have been divided since a civil war in 1949, and the Chinese Communist Party has not maintained control over the island since then.
