Castillo seeks oxygen before the Justice while appealing for mobilization

The legal team of the Peruvian president, Pedro Castillo, defended this Friday an appeal before the Judiciary against one of the six open investigations against the president, who in his eagerness to try to mobilize his bases today visited the northern department of San Martín, one of its bastions.

In the hearing held today, Castillo’s lawyer, Benji Espinoza, asked the Supreme Judge Juan Carlos Checkley to annul the statement of the former Minister of the Interior Mariano González of the complaint for alleged obstruction of justice opened against him.

The lawyer argued that the Attorney General’s Office had taken González’s testimonial statement after publicly accusing Castillo of obstructing the detention of fugitives from Justice, but before opening the preliminary investigation against the president.

For its part, the Public Ministry replied in a statement that the Supreme Deputy Prosecutor Marco Huamán argued that Castillo’s right to defense was not affected.

During the hearing, Huamán dismissed the fact that the previous investigation, which made it possible for the Prosecutor’s Office to collect González’s statement, had violated the right to defense, because the president’s lawyer did not participate in it.

In this regard, he explained that "Before opening the preliminary proceedings in this case, it was necessary to have the version of former Minister González in order to have a circumstantial and detailed account of the events narrated in the television interview.".

The Peruvian president already went to give his testimony to the Prosecutor’s Office on August 4, a day in which he denied having obstructed Justice, although he refused to answer questions from the Public Ministry.

CASTILLO REITERATES THAT HE DOES NOT "WILL BANKRUPT"

After two days with events at the Lima Government Palace together with his supporters in which he has requested their support, Castillo went this Friday to San Martín, one of the regions where he won both in the first and second rounds of the last elections and in the one who promised not to "they will break".

That has been his maxim since Justice, at the request of the Prosecutor’s Office, ordered last Tuesday the arrest for ten days of his sister-in-law Yenifer Paredes, whom Castillo has raised like a daughter.

"Peruvian people: they are not going to break me, thanks to this people who have put me at the head of the country (…) When there is a debate in the first power of the State (Congress), far from seeing this reality, certain people who have been raised on rugs ignore and mistreat congressional sisters who come from the working class"he told his supporters.

These, enraged, asked him to order the closure of the Parliament, which has an opposition majority and which has maintained a hostile attitude towards Castillo since he became president.

In line with his rejection of the media, which he accuses of having built a "media show" against him, told them that those who "they appear on the big television" Y "They cross their legs on the set, they don’t know the country".

"Do you know why they ask for the vacancy, dismissal, disqualification of the president? They do not like that a chacrero (peasant) is in the palace"he snapped at them.

SLIGHTLY INCREASE YOUR APPROVAL

After one of the longest weeks for Castillo since he became president, in which he has tried to mobilize his bases after the arrest of his sister-in-law, the Peruvian president received a small relief in the latest survey by the CPI company, which shows a slight increase in approval.

According to said survey, prepared for the RPP station, approval rose to 22.6%, three points more than last June, while disapproval of his management fell to 71% in August, four points less than in the previous survey.

Support for the head of state rose to 14.5% in Lima and 27.4% in the rest of the regions of the Peruvian territory in August.

Also this Friday, the president of the Judiciary, Elvia Barros, denied that her institution is part of any conspiracy or political persecution against the Government and thus rejected the accusations of Castillo, who affirmed after the arrest of her sister-in-law that she was the victim of a coup operation. to remove him from power.

"In the Judiciary, we do not carry out political persecution, we only impart justice and apply the law"said Barrios in statements to the state channel TV Peru.

Also, he asserted that "there is a serious conflict between the Executive power and the Legislative power"but stressed that his sector is not going to "enter this conflictive stage".

In this way, he replied to an accusation by the head of state, who, after learning of the preliminary arrest warrant against his sister-in-law, said he was the victim of a "collusion between Congress, the Attorney General’s Office and a sector of the press to destabilize the democratic order" Y "seize power illegally".
