Cap Cana Classic Blue Marlin Fishing Returns

The eighteenth edition of the Cap Cana Classic for Blue Marlin fishing will be held from the 12th to the 15th of this month with the participation of more than 30 top-level vessels representing the United States, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic.

The event, under the direction of Salvador Egea, will have professional fishermen in boats with a maximum of seven crew members. On the occasion there will be three days of fishing for the Pro, Semi Pro, best angler and best youth angler categories. The first three places in Pro and Semi Pro will receive trophies and other prizes.

In a press release sent to the media, the director indicated that each Blue Marlin duly released will receive 300 points, while the White Marlin and Sailfish species will receive 100 points each.

“For our classic, the rules of the IGFA will govern and boats with more than 25 feet in length will be allowed, properly equipped for Blue Marlin fishing. The minimum age allowed is 12 years, being an event of total release of the species”, highlights Egea in the statement.

He adds that each day a color band will be assigned that the radio control will inform before the departure of the boats. It was established that the boats will leave at 6:45 in the morning to drop lines at 7:30. They will be picked up at 5:00 in the afternoon for the first and second days. On the last day they will get up at 4:30 in the afternoon.

The fishermen will have two hours after capturing the billfish to proceed with the regulatory release.

Activities

For Wednesday the 12th, the organizing committee has scheduled a welcome cocktail and the next day there will be an activity (Daypass at Margaritaville) for the ladies and families of fishermen.

On Friday the 14th, the invitation is repeated to the ladies and relatives of fishermen to Brunch at Maralia, from 11:00 in the morning to 2:00 in the afternoon. At night (7 to 10 PM) there will be a Burgers and beers in the Marina captaincy. Finally, on Saturday the 15th, trophies and prizes will be awarded to the winners in the different categories.

Silvano Suazo, director of the Marina Cap Cana, highlighted the enthusiasm among fishermen and local yacht clubs, as well as foreign visitors.

“Our president of the Cap Cana Group, Jorge Subero Medina, has always supported the staging of the fair as part of the group’s philosophy to continue attracting tourism to the country and maintain supremacy as a Destination City,” Suazo said.
