The Ministers of Sports and Administration of the Presidency, Francisco Camacho and José Paliza, gave a symbolic peck to start this Thursday the roofing works of the Fantastic Club, in this city, in order to fulfill a promise made by the president Luis Abinader to Dominican NBA player Chris Duarte.
The Indiana Pacers defenseman-shooter, who hails from the "Atlantic Bride"recalled that he made the request to the head of state during his visit, on August 22 of last year, to the court where he took his first steps in basketball.
“The dream will be a reality, God willing,” said Duarte, provoking the applause of the attendees, among them minor category players who duly uniformed participated in the act.
The new portent of Dominican basketball thanked President Abinader, as well as Ministers Paliza and Camacho for following up on the pledged word.
Likewise, he highlighted the work that the president of that sports entity, Bernardo Polanco (Torito), has been doing for years since the early hours of the morning to keep children and young people away from the streets.
“Every time a Dominican athlete leaves the country and triumphs like that one there, it represents a tourist promotion that we don’t have money to pay for,” Camacho said while pointing to the Indiana player, who was sitting at the table of honor.
He argued that for this reason President Abinader prioritizes investments such as the 27 million that have been allocated to raise the low ceiling.
“Tourism is the backbone of our economy,” Camacho said.
Immediately afterwards, the Minister of Sports was introduced to the engineer Eddy Encarnación, who won the tender for the work.
Camacho asked the directors of the club, the athletes and the community in general, to provide the best use and care for the facility, "because it belongs to them".
