Brewers beat Reds in home run duel, Adames contributes one

Keston Hiura hit a tiebreaking homer off Ross Detwiler in the seventh inning, and the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Cincinnati Reds 5-4 on Friday night.

Milwaukee got its third victory in 13 games, in what was basically a home run duel.

Hunter Renfroe hit a three-run homer in the fourth inning and Willy Adames hit a solo shot in the fifth to make it 4-0 against Hunter Greene on a night in which all the runs came from homers.

Albert Alomar Jr. hit a two-run shot in the fifth inning, and Brandon Drury and Tommy Pham followed with solo homers in the sixth off Eric Lauer’s first two pitches of that inning to tie the score at 4-4.

Detwiler (0-1) took the mound with one out in the seventh inning and Hiura, ninth in the batting order, found him a fastball on the first pitch to disappear into right-center field.

Lauer (6-2) gave up four runs on six hits in 6 1/3 innings.

The Dominican Miguel Sánchez made the last two outs of the seventh chapter; Devin Williams gave up a hit in the eighth and Brad Boxberger stranded two runners for his first save since Aug. 2.

For the Brewers, Dominican Willy Adames 4-1, one scored, one produced. The Venezuelan Omar Narvaez 4-0. The Mexican Luis Urías 1-0.
