A young man dressed in a black uniform entered the Eurides Santanna Municipal School in the city of Barreras, in the interior of the state of Bahia, Brazil, and opened fire on the students. He killed a young woman who was in a wheelchair, whom he also attacked with a knife. The assailant was shot and is in custody after shooting with the police, according to the TV Bahía news network.
The young man, who would be a student at the municipal school, entered at 7:20 when all the students had already started school. According to witnesses, he started shooting at the door of the establishment, so the students ran to a side door to leave the place.
“We can’t believe it; we started running when he started shooting. We are in shock and trying to protect the students,” pedagogical coordinator Mónica Patricia told TV Bahía.
Police spokesman Aparecido Freitas said that the killer’s target was a teenage girl in wheelchairs, named Jeane Da Silva Brito, whom he shot twice and cut with a knife.
“Wearing a black uniform, wearing dark glasses, he entered armed defying everyone. He shot twice and cut the victim with a knife. When the police arrived, they shot him and he was hit,” Freitas explained.
The aggressor was arrested and admitted to the General Hospital of the West, in Barreras, an agricultural region in the interior of the state of Bahia. Sources quoted by the Globo network indicated that the murderer would be a student enrolled in that school but that he did not attend classes.
