Bordalás reaches 200 ahead of Madrid

200 games in the First Division. It’s the mark the Getafe CF coach has just reached, Jose Bordalas, after leading his team in last Monday’s win against Alavés (1-0) in the Coliseum.

That success comes ahead of a visit to the newly refurbished Santiago Bernabéu, where they take on Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid the day after tomorrow. Exactly the Italian praised his colleague a few days ago: “I like BordalasHe is one of those coaches who is able to motivate the players. I met him and he’s very nice and I like the way he motivates the team.”

In those two hundred games, the Alicante coach recorded more wins (68) than losses (67) and managed to get his teams to score in practically 70% of the games.

He has overseen a total of 100 LaLiga games, 162 with Getafe and 38 with Valencia, with a record of 68 wins, 65 draws and 67 defeats.

In terms of goals, despite being considered a more defensive than offensive coach, he has scored more goals for than against, namely 215 for and 208 against. In total, he managed to collect 269 points, which means he has a record of 1.35 points per game.

His best league finish came in the 2018/19 season when he stayed in a respectable 5th place with 59 points. A fact that becomes even more relevant considering that Bordalás first joined Getafe in 2016 when the side were close to the second B position. He managed to save himself and was promoted the following year, reaching fifth place, which gave the team promotion in Europe, the best ranking also in the history of the Azulón club.

Some of the players he debuted in the First Division are Hugo Duro, Mathias Olivera, Mamardashvili, Ndiaye, Arambarri, the world champion goalkeeperDibu’ Martinez, or his players today Djené and Jaime Mata, who incidentally made his debut for the Spanish national team under his command. His main victims include coaches Arrasate, whom he has beaten six times (6F 3E 2D), Quique Setién (6F 2E 3D) and Asier Garitano (5F 3E 2D).

Outside of domestic competition, he reached the cup final against Betis in 2022, where only penalties prevented him from becoming the first Valencian (Valencian Community) in 103 years to win the cup. This was his first final as a coach after almost 30 years on the bench and despite a bad crash he was praised by another teammate on the bench. Robert Martinez, who congratulated him in the broadcast of the game “for the approach and the way the team has grown …” and emphasized “the intensity, which is very reminiscent of British football”.

Against Real Madrid, Bordalás will try to start the new hundred games by giving Getafe fans another treat.
