Bitcoin Developer Has Message for ‘BTC Maximalists’

It is a fact that bitcoin (BTC) was the very first cryptocurrency ever and thus it was also the only cryptocurrency for a while. Today, however, the crypto industry consists of many hundreds, if not thousands, of crypto coins. For bitcoin ‘maximalists’ these altcoins are not even worth considering and often such maximalists have a hostile attitude towards all that is not bitcoin.

Core bitcoin developer lashes out at maximalists

According to an core developer of the Bitcoin network, Matt Carallo, this attitude of maximalists is not wise. He therefore calls on them on Twitter to stop blackmailing other cryptocurrencies and to stop labeling every crypto project as a scam.

According to Corallo, the Bitcoin community is really only busy attacking other crypto projects at the moment. He argues that the community would be much better off spending their time discussing bitcoin’s unique and strong points.

“This is especially damaging to Bitcoin because Bitcoin’s most outspoken proponents don’t explain why Bitcoin is great and unique, but spend all their time attacking other projects. Sure, some of those projects are scammers and deserve to be, but it doesn’t help BTC.”

Corallo even argues that the hostile attitude of bitcoin maximalists, for example against the… Ethereum (ETH) network, in the future the community could become dear. Bitcoin maximalists are currently lashing out at the merge on Ethereum and the move to a proof of stake (PoS) consensus model.

As a result, Corallo suggests that supporters of the Ethereum network will hit back by lobbying governments against proof of work (PoW), obviously from a climate change perspective. That could be a blow to Bitcoin.

BTC maximalists seem unimpressed

Unfortunately for Corallo, his message seems to have gone down well with bitcoin maximalists. The reactions to his post have been fierce on Twitter. Almost every imaginable reaction that Corallo warns about is passed.
