Binance Blocks Accounts Of Family Members Connected To Russian Government

The crypto exchange Binance is taking more measures to prevent the Russian government from circumventing the impact of sanctions by using cryptocurrencies. The exchange has blocked several accounts connected to relatives of senior Kremlin officials, Bloomberg reported Thursday.

Binance Blocks Stepdaughter Lavrov’s Account

The Bloomberg report shows that both Elizaveta Peskova, the daughter of Putin’s spokesman (Dmitry Peskov), and Polina Kovaleva, the stepdaughter of the foreign minister (Sergei Lavrov) have been blocked by Binance.

Binance said it had also blocked Kirill Malofeyev, the son of Konstantin Malofeyev, a Russian oligarch previously accused of violating United States sanctions.

“Proud to be part of this team that is making a real difference,” Chagri Poyraz, Binance’s newly appointed head of sanctions, wrote on his LinkedIn page.

Poyraz said Binance blocked Peskova on March 3 when she tried to use the exchange. She was subsequently released by the US Treasury Department on March 11. sanctioned

Elizaveta Peskova, daughter of Putin’s spokesman, is outraged that she can no longer use the crypto exchange. She declared the action as “totally unfair and unfounded”.

“I was really surprised because it’s weird to impose sanctions on someone who is 24 years old and has nothing to do with the situation,” she said. On March 12, Peskova wrote on Twitter: “Peace.”
